RPM Package: rpmdrake-3.118-1mdv2008.0.src.rpm
Summary: software sources still used even when not enabled
Product: Mandriva Linux
Version: 2008
Platform: x86_64
OS/Version: Linux
Status: NEW
Severity: normal
Priority: normal
Component: Core Packages
AssignedTo: ***@mandriva.com
ReportedBy: ***@seattlegeek.com
QAContact: ***@mandrivalinux.org

Description of problem:

I used backports media to test out latest compiz. After removing the packages
and disabling the backports media (via rpmdrake's 'media manager'), the
backports sources still are active when looking at installable software.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
3.118

How reproducible:
Add backports media, either via command-line (urpmi.addmedia) or via rpmdrake's
media manager. Enable the backports sources, then disable them. The gui shows
the sources as disabled, the urpmi.cfg says to ignore, but sources are not
ignored.

Steps to Reproduce:
1.
2.
3.

This is per design.
In order to make backport support easier for end users, we choosed to
auto configure ignored backport media as search media in rpmdrake,
thus enabling users to browse them w/o getting updates from them by default.

Doesn't seem like a brilliant design - especially since rpmdrake does not
actually indicate which repository a package comes from. Couldn't it only show
backports packages when the 'Backports' search filter is being used?

That would be confusing. "All" wouldn't be listing everything as his name
suggests and that wouldn't be consistent ("All" listing updates but not
backports)

True...but still, I don't like this system :( can you bring it up in any
interface meetings to see if someone has a better idea or anything? I can't
think of anything better ATM...
